Best New Family Cars

Whatever the class of car you are dealing with (in terms of new cars), whether you are looking at buying or selling, there will always be a general price range into which the vast majority of models fall.

In the UK and indeed an overwhelming proportion of the world, family vehicles are the ones which are sold in the highest quantities year upon year. As you can imagine there are quite obvious reasons to support this statement – family cars provide practicality, performance, space and are generally reasonably priced.

So what makes a family car a class leader, and which family cars are the cream of the crop? What you are generally looking for is balance i.e. a car that delivers on all fronts and represents strong value for money. These are some of the best new family cars currently on the market (in no particular order).

Ford B-Max

The B-Max is a relatively new model which has proved popular in its early years, and it stands out for two key reasons – price and practicality. Available at a little over £13,000 in entry level form, it’s one of the cheapest medium sized family vehicles in the UK and it’s undoubtedly one of the most practical too. Generally, with practicality usually comes a sacrifice in terms of style, but the Ford B-Max boasts a sleek exterior.

Hyundai i30

The sales of Hyundai vehicles in the UK are increasing year upon year and it is certainly not surprising why. The South Korean manufacturer has built up a reputation of producing reliable and practical vehicles. One of its most popular models is the i30. The most impressive aspects of this car are its incredibly refined cabin and smooth handling. Even approaching motorway speeds there is little noise to be heard inside. Prices start from £14,600 but range topping models will set you back in excess of £23,000, which is why many people opt for second hand Hyundai i30 models.

Kia Cee’d

The first thing that comes to mind with the Kia Cee’d, or indeed any new Kia model for that matter, is warranty. Every new Kia vehicle is offered with a manufacturer warranty of 7 years or 100,000 miles to give the buyer complete peace of mind. When you consider that the vast majority of other new cars are only offered with 60,000 miles or 3 years, it’s undoubtedly a perk which could influence your decision. Moreover, the Cee’d engines are impressively frugal with low emissions. It is available from £14,805.

Seat Leon

If it is a true all-rounder that you’re after, look no further than the Seat Leon. There’s probably no area in which it is superior for its class, but crucially it has no weaknesses. Sales of used Seat Leon models have also been through the roof in recent years, partially down to strong residual values.
